LIFT supports life-long learning and self-improvement through quality, collaborative programs between labor, business, government, education and community partners.

The Labor Institute for Training (LIFT) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.  Our goal is to advocate for and assist in the development and administration of educational programs that empower the individual to increase their career opportunities.

LIFT serves as a workforce intermediary to deliver workshops, training seminars, and technical assistance to support worker-centered programs. We collaborate with Employers, Organized Labor, Education, Community Based Organizations, State and Local Workforce Development Boards, and American Job Center service providers procured to administer publicly funded workforce services (e.g. Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, Wagner-Peyser, and Trade Adjustment Assistance Programs). We collaborate to leverage employment and training resources, both public and private, to build and expand upon successful models to prepare individuals for work and to maintain employment in good jobs that support a strong economy.

LIFT services include:

  • Convening strategic alliances in support of Sector Strategies and career pathway initiatives
  • Implementation of Layoff Aversion strategies for facilities at risk of mass layoff or closure
  • Rapid Response pre- and post-layoff transition center services, workshops, Peer-to-Peer Outreach Coordinator training to assist unemployed, dislocated workers access and navigate through the system of publicly funded workforce development and employment services
  • Education and training program development (English and Spanish) to document and enhance workforce skills using Industry Recognized Credentials:
    • U.S. Department of Labor approved Apprenticeship Readiness and Registered Apprenticeship
    • Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC) Certified Production Technician (CPT)
    • MSSC Certified Logistics Associate (CLA) and Certified Logistics Technician (CLT)
    • Digital Literacy, CompTIA+ Fundamentals, Internet Core Competency Certification (IC3)
    • ACT National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) Assessments
  • Customer Service and custom soft skill and individual development plans using LinkedIn Lynda.com Library of Online Courses
  • Joint Labor-Management Committee Training to support ongoing incumbent workforce investments in training and development
  • Coordination of supportive services through collaboration with AFL-CIO Area Labor Federations and their Community Service Labor Liaison partnership with United Way
